No difference with both disconnected. At first I did get the program sound ok, but again after the first minute, the set switches itself off. The second time I try, it will stay on standby, 'till I click any program, then off again.
It doesn't sound like any lopt or associated problem, but the extra load seems to be shorting or overloading something!

Just wondered what would happen if the tube base and scan coil plug disconnected. Would it stay on?
If it turns out to be the lopt I bought one from this company over a year ago and still going. Cheap! Cheap!

Thanks for your quick reply. Had already looked at that page, but couldn't find any similar reference to the fault. Although this is a fairly old set, it has rarely been used.
There's nothing unusual on the screen, before shut down.
It will sit on standby OK, for ages, but the minute you click on any program, it switches off immediately. Can't even find a dry joint anywhere and paid particular attention to the LOPT and surrounding area.
Looks like I'll have to start from scratch and download the manual Sad .

Have a look at this link and check the usual suspects listed but also remember that this set may use the problem Philips 28" widescreen tube although flyback lines with a predominant colour normally displayed before switching to standbye.
The manual is available for download from this site if needed.

Hi,
Set switches on to all programs OK, but after 2 to 3 minutes, switches off. If I switch back on again immediately, it only lasts seconds this time then goes off again. Any time after that, nothing. When I leave switched off for half an hour, then switch back on again, everything ok for a few minutes, then switches itself off. I've replaced the S2000AF1, but no joy. It points to something overheating!
Any suggestions,
John.
