I am not sure of you receiver but usually if the outputs are not balanced, they will not switch the speakers on. Remove the outputs to the defective side and it may work with one channel. Better still, why not replace the defective transistors. If it is a unit (like an STKXXXX) you will have to replace it anyway.

I found a blown fuse prt#1-532-749-11 after removing the lid (i had no display screen or sound)...i need schematics and a little more help trouble shooting so i can repair the problem..Im a fairly intelligent person and good with electronics...i beleave it's a blown channel so if thats the case cant i just not use that channel and shouldnt that alllow the reciever to work. please contact me for more indept trouble shooting and repairring ideas
