Ok, just to let you know that instead of manually degaussing I ran the TV through a process of turning on an off - guessing that the internal degausser (if working) might do the trick - over a couple of days. I must have turned it on and off about fifty times. Net result: screen now looks virtually perfect - still the faintest red discolouration at the top of the screen on one or two channels, but I expect this might improve with time.
My lesson: keep those 5.1 system loudspeakers well away!

Again, many thanks for your help.

Thanks for the very fast response. This makes a lot of sense. I have had two small speakers from my 5.1 surround system close to the TV and on the basis of some other answers in this forum I may well have to do a manual degaussing.
But just to check the other possibility you mentioned, any idea where I would locate the thermistor in the degaussing system circuit?

You have a degausing problem. See if the thermistor has bad solder connections on it. You can always manually degause it also.

Model purchased 30 months ago. Colour on screen completely distorted. Mainly blue in center, surrounded by green halo, then red at top left and right corners.

Problem irrespective of input, i.e. ant, scart1 or scart2.

All other functions seem normal.
