My UPS also had problems with batteries and I had to replace them several times. But first I had this problem, it was within warranty period, so I didn't have to pay for it.

For all UPSes, regardless of brand, the most common fault is that the batteries (usually, valve-regulated lead-acid batteries) break down after about 3 - 10 years, mostly due to high ambient temperature and maybe too high trickle charging voltage.

Besides that, common faults are bad connections (solder joints, blade connectors, crimped cable terminations etc) that may overheat when the UPS is heavily loaded.

Does anyone have some tips on APC UPS repairs ? What typically goes bad in these units. There must be a common failure component for most of these ?
