The other two tubes are three times brighter and I've been through all the circuitry. Circuitry is fine. The right IC carries both the Red and Green tubes and that's the only one smoking.

How do you know it's the tube?

follow up minnie:

The cure you suggested was on the money except for my set has a bad red tube and continually blows my right STK. Turn set on, heats up after 2 minutes, smokes rolls out of the IC.

Darn tubes!

That's normal, replace the STK's and pico's and you'll be fine.

minnie,

I just confirmed (2) 5amp pico fuses were blown in the power supply and believe your advice is right on the money. The owner of this set is a personal friend of mine and will be most greatful for the advice. The ICs are actually STK-570's however and all pico fuses mounted below these ICs checked good.

Replace your convergence IC's should be STK392-560"s and look for open pico fuses.
