based on the possibilties you gave me, i think its a shorted transistor. does that sound accurate for a power supply for a plasma tv? unfortunately, i jumped headfirst into this and forgot some basics. by shorting whatever i did, i multiplied my problems. now i have, at the very least, several fuses to replace and at worst fried some ics. thanks for the reply |

That depends on which kind of equipment it is and how the +5V rail is supplied.
Typically, a such fault could be due to a short circuited series pass transistor of a linear voltage regulator or buck type switched regulator. Or it could be due to a voltage regulation problem or lost ground reference for any type of regulator.
Another possibility is a short circuit from the +5V to a higher voltage somewhere in the equipment. |
