Repalce the caps on the pip board or pull the pip brd out and jumper pins 5 to 11 and 7 to 9.

Those sets were well known for leaky electrolytic capacitors which caused a variety of problems. It all depends...some were worst than the others

I procured an '89 Mitsubishi CS 36509 for $300 (Now, don't go asking why I
didn't go new. It was to settle a debt.) After I finally got the remote so I
could get past that stupid cable guide, I watched a game. At about halftime
it started scrambling like HBO does when you don't subscribe (like the horiz
hold just freaked out.) It does it on every channel, and also on straight
video from the DVD player. However the menues stay still.

It was in storage for quite awhile, possibly less than dry and warm. Is this
likely to be cost-prohibitive to fix? Or is there a way to adjust it? Any
ideas would be appreciated.
