If disassembled, does anyone know if the clear window can be detached from the rest of the front assembly or is it glued in tight?

It could go either way based on the drawings and what I've observed over the years.

I looked for "J" clips on the window that would push through holes in the front assembly body but I don't see any. Becoming more of an adventure/gamble every day.

You have noticed the correct service manual is now in database. See page 29. Looks like ONLY part of front - it doesn't show it separating from front at all! But it must, I'm presuming different plastic materials.

You probably cracked LCD401, on page 29.

That should cost you:
part# 180464711 DISPLAY PANEL, LIQUID CRYST $69.78

Hi Guest, I wish. Unless I am missing something, the LCD assembly, including LCD401, is behind the front cover asembly including the clear window face. Nice to know that they give the LCD and extra layer of protection. Overkill on the LCD, underkill on the customer friendliness repair design.

Unlike sony camcorders which have no plastic protection in front of the LCD. If you scratch or damage the camcorder screen, you are replacing the LCD.
