Hi All, Please bare with me that I’m a newbie here and have very limited
EE knowleage.

A friend bought me this Malata MDVD-6838 DVD/Karaoke player from
China and it only worked for two days, now it’s dead in the water.
I did some on-line research and find out that it could be the PSU went bad.

The machine won’t power on at all. I can see the Power Button LED lights
on when the AC is plugged in, but if I press the power button, nothing
happens, no front panel display, the disk tray won’t open either.

I opened up the case and took out the PSU and here’s what I find out:
I can get voltage readings from CON1 but there’s almost no voltage on
CON2. see pictures below:

PIC1 FRONT PSU (you may see some dark areas on the pics, but those are normal, just the shadows on the picture)

PIC2 Back PSU

PIC3 OverView PSU

Q1: Based on the info I have, can we say that the PSU is dead?
Q2: if yes, I wonder how hard is that to have this PSU repaired?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Being a switchmode powersupply I would not run it without a load otherwise it may self destruct. Plug it into the machine for testing.
Are D105 and D106 O.K? It looks like I can see inside them, maybe it is just a reflection?
What voltages are you getting on D1 and D2 measured from a ground?
CAREFUL of the big capacitor, it may have 340 Volts on it, even when unplugged!
The two, 0Volts in the middle of CON2 look like the secondary ground, put your meter earth lead on one of those.....also measure D3, D5, D6.
Does the supply make any noises when it is connected properly?

Let us know how you go. Smile
