SONY KP53S75 TV AND RM-Y906 REMOTE

So my current remote (RMY906) broked down and I needed to replace it...I purchase another identical remote and the remote doesn't turn on or off my KP53S75 SONY TV.

Must I set up something on my remote or TV to talk to each other?

DO ANY OF THE FUNCTIONS WORK ON THE REMOTE? DID THE ORIGINAL REMOTE JUST STOP WORKING THE SET OR WAS IT PHYSICALLY BROKEN? IF IT JUST STOPPED WORKING AND YOUR NEW ONE DOESN'T WORK IT IS MORE LIKELY TO BE THE SET THAN 2 BROKEN REMOTES. A QUICK WAY TO SEE IF A REMOTE IS WORKING IS TO USE A CAMCORDER, LOOK THROUGH THE VIEWFINDER AND POINT REMOTE AT LENS, WHEN YOU PRESS A BUTTON ON REMOTE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE THE REMOTES IR LED LIGHT UP IN THE VIEWFINDER.

I am able to program the remote to work with my cable box...and thanks for the advise, I will try the troubleshooting you mention and get back with the result.
