Zanussi Aquacycle 1500 - Loss of Power

I put a load on last night and left the machine running as normal.
When I went to empty it I noticed that the lights which indicate the machine is washing/finished were not on. The door locking light was on, so I couldn't open the door. After switching it off and removing the top cover I managed to open the door and remove clothing (water was still present in the drum).
Now when I switch the machine on and push the Start button, it will click a couple of times and then the lights turn off and the machine will not do anything else (but the door locking light remains on).
Does anyone have any ideas how I can repair?????
