Hitachi Ultravision 50" Problem

Hi,

I have just purchased this projection t.v. for $100. The model is 50UX52B and the year it was made was 1997. There are a few problems with it.

When you turn on the set, it will sometimes have horizontal lines across the entire screen. A slight tap and they go away or the t.v. shuts off.

If the t.v. is left plugged in and then you try to turn it on, it won't switch on. If you unplug it for a few minutes and then re-plug it, you can usually turn the set on again.

Barring the t.v. shutting down on its own, the t.v. will intermittently have the problem with the lines and with a slight tap on the set, they go away. After about 10-20 minutes it works fine.

One person told me it was the tube and someone else mentioned the boost circuit??

Any suggestions?
