Reliabilty and Repair Plasma V Lcd

Like many people these days I am considering replacing a crt television but I have been out of the trade now for a few years and when I left these sets were just out or covered by return to base warranty.
Would appreciate input from front line techs.

What kind of set are you looking for? Plasma, LCD, DLP?
My favorite is a 50hm66. Best bang for the buck. Plasma life hasn't been the greatest.

Thank You for replying. I was considering a brand that have provided a good backup service in the past and these are Toshiba, Panasonic or a Sony L.C.D of about 40" H.D widescreen. What brand is 50hm66?
I noticed at the start of last year a company here in the U.K were advertising a Plasma at £1200 but only provided a 3 year warranty for an additional £600 which suggested they are a bit unreliable although things have vastly improved since and prices fallen.
