My SONY big screen made in 1990, problem decription is as follows:
1. Static comes and goes sometimes if you change channel it will stop
2. same problem with picture in picture
3. it is not antenna or cable problem
4. sometimes it does not happen for an hour or so at a time

Resolder all connections in the tuner and AFT module. This will take care of your problem.
