Has anyone experienced this problem ?
And does anyone know the cause of this problem ?

HP laserjet 4L - makes groaning noise...

Sounds like a cog slipping and grating...

And paper feeds only about half way.

thanks maccc

Hi, mbelec,
thanks for your reply...

Where would I see this error code ?
On the PC screen I assume ?

No, it just sounds like a cog in the feed mech' is slipping.

There are quite a few cogs that all mesh together on the LH side of the machine, that are driven from the motor in the middle of them.

Past experience of anything mechanical like this is...
that it is fatal to dismantle them until you are sure what the problem is !

hi
the problem that u refer is on the main motor gear.
remove that gear and turn it back.u have to expand a litle bit the hole.
That will solve your problem.

Hi, HeVi,
Many thanks for the advice but could you please clarify...

I'm sorry but I'm a bit thick ;>)
So would you please explain in more detail...

You say >>
the problem that u refer is on the main motor gear.
remove that gear and turn it back.u have to expand a litle bit the hole.
That will solve your problem.
<<

The main motor is in the middle of the cogs, (on the left-hand side of the machine)

The motors drive shaft has a small (about 6mm dia) white knurled cog on it .

So, do you mean this cog ?

If so, can I replace just this cog ?
Or will I have to buy a complete new motor and cog ?

And, what do you mean by...
>
remove that gear and turn it back.u have to expand a litle bit the hole.
<

Thanks
