Hi,

I have a Sony KV-29K5U to repair. When it is switched on from standby a relay clicks, the sound is ok but no picture. EHT is present and remote control works. After a minute or so the standby LED starts flashing 5 times in between pauses. Another 2 minutes and the picture comes on with poor definition and very rich colour. Can't select brightness or colour on screen menu, only contrast is available. Does anyone know what the 5 flash code means or has anyone found a similar fault?

5 flashes on this set is an auto grey scale error, check setting of a1 control, tubes seem to be failing in these sets earlier than i would have expected.

What is "a1", can't see it on cct diagram?

a1 is also known as screen voltage or g2 voltage, it is an adjustment on the line output transformer.
