Protect mode occurs when an overcurrent situation is detected by the power supply in the amplifier. This will occur if you have shorted the speaker outputs, or if the amplifier is damaged or has failed.
If protect mode occurs without any connections to your speakers, then the amp is likely damaged. It is possible to repair if you have knowledge of electronics - if not you will have to take it to be repaired.
