Any comments for a novice on the possibility of self-repairing my tv after it took some water while sitting on the basement floor after a power-outage caused flood? Thank you for any advice.

Open it up and let it air dry.

If it was flooded by dirty or salt water, then it would be a good idea to flush the chassis with clean, warm water. Be careful about the speakers, and open up any screening cans (tuner, IF etc) where water might get trapped.
Let it dry out for several days before trying to power the set up!

If it was sitting in water and has dried out for over a week then you might as well junk it. The corrosion will be all over the main board. You can open the set to see the extent of damage from the floodwaters.

Sorry didn't get to finish my reply. If it is still wet then take the board out and flush it under running water and use a brush to clean off any residue from the flood. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to dry it out thoughroly.
