TV Repair Help

Hi,

My HDTV Hitachi Energy Star 51' Screen has recently broke down. The tv turns on, but there is no video/audio and is unresponsive to remotes (except turning on button). None of the tv buttons work except the on and off button. I think this should be a very easy self repair, but I do not know where to start. The only problem I can think of is that the power cord might of shorted and the tv is not getting enough power. Any suggestions of would could I do/what happened? Thanks

Repairman came and said that it has a broken circuit board, the convergence circuit. Estimated 400 dollars. Is this plausible cause? (I don't trust repiarmen, they sometimes overcharge)

Q706 shorts or if it's convergence IK04 IK05 check RK42 RK46 RK50 RK54 RK58 RK62.
