|
|
I am a beginner. For my hobby I needed to know the voltage of a tiny bulb. I connnected the multimeter using the resistance settings and came up with a reading of 2.7 at the 200 setting. Did I mearsure the bulb voltage that way? If so, what is the voltage? (I know the manufacturer would have used either around 1.5V or 12 V in the toy).
If I have simply measured the continuity, which multimeter settng would I use to measure the bulb voltage.
Thanks to any who take time to help such a beginner! |

What you measured is the actual resistance of the filament of the bulb(2.7 ohms in this case) which is the same as continuity from point A_B. There is no way to measure the actual voltage rating of a bulb by means of a meter.
Normally it is stamped/written on the bulb--not always. The best way to measure the unknown voltage is to actually measure the source where the bulb is connected to --not the bulb itself & start with the low/mid for voltage setting on the meter. |
