Toshiba 28z33b - is visible width faulty?

When I view broadcast films on the above any titles that run towards the edge of the frame are truncated. This happens whatever 'aspect' I choose.

I've tried a couple of bought dvds thro my dvd recorder and they appear ok. So is it normal for films to be broadcast as described above or might it be some internal problem with my set that handles the dvd output ok but fails with film broadcasts?
