Hi,
I'm not sure this is the right place to leave this message, but here goes.
I have an old Sharp VCR (model VC-A207) on which I would like to change the recording speed. Presently it is "SP", and I would like to change it to "EP"; but Sharp tech service tells me that I cannot change it without the proper remote, which I do not have. Does anyone know how I can do this without the remote?
Thanks,
John

There were several manufactured units including sharp that needed to have the remote for certain functions. There is no other way, If you could get a hold of any older sharp remote, more than likely will be able to use it.

Trouble is, if/when there is a power loss, it will revert back to "SP" . So having a remote handy will be necessary. You could always try ordering or even attempt a "universal" remote which may or may not work---but at the end it is probably not worth the cost involved either way.

Hi Vtech,
Yes, the Sharp tech told me that the high end universal remotes would work; but you're right, it's not worth the expense. Your point about power losses is a good one.
I'm near Toronto, actually Markham, do you know of anyone who sells used remotes?
Thanks,
John

Why don't you take your VCR to a local repair shop, maybe the techs there can help you out for a minimal charge.

Do not know of anyone selling used remotes but, like paul suggested, your best bet is to check with a local shop (if any) that may have something you could use---or else do a search on the net which is a toss up.
