Jeep Grand Cherokee Headlamp Problem

I have a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my daytime running lights won't shut off when I turn the engine off. They stay on and, consequently, drain my battery. Anyone know what the problem might be?

Most likely, the contacts of the relay for the daytime running lights have got welded together, or the relay's return spring has fatigued. In some cars, the daytime running lights are supplied via a separate contact pair in the light switch, and then the fault could be there.

Before going further with the troubleshooting, you should find a wiring diagram for the car and study the circuitry. Also, check out whether the circuit for daytime running lights is factory installed of if it is installed by the importer. Here in Sweden, there are many problems with such equipment that is installed by importers or car dealers - sloppy installations, relays of bad quality, relays and fuse holders hanging loose in the engine compartment where they are subjected to road dirt, salt, oil, heat and so on.
