Should I plug this into my wall?

This is the power plug to my air conditioning, which my parents have owned for probably almost or more than twenty years. I think it's looked like this for a few months or maybe even years. I unplugged it this morning and really don't think I should plug it back in, due to there being freaking rust, burn spots, dust, and some kind of lime-colored material on the prongs. We were going to replace it at the beginning of this past summer, but the new air conditioning unit we ordered wouldn't fit in our window correctly. (Good thing winter's coming fairly soon and we won't need AC anymore). Hopefully it doesn't get hot again before winter comes, or else my mom's going to say "No, it's ok, plug it in" because she can't stand it getting warm in the house.

(I probably would have got that dust and hair off of the prongs and outlet before plugging it back in anyway....but that's not the thing I'm worried about obviously)

The outlet is getting too hot. More than likely it's wired for 10/15 amps and you need 20 amps. The outlet need to be replaced and the cord needs to be replaced/fixed. They sell appliance extension cords that will help dissipate the heat.

Just like posted above, DO NOT REUSE that. You guys have been lucky not to have started a fire.

Like minnie said, either it is drawing too many Amps or it has simply corroded over the years causing high resistance which translates in to heat & melt the plug holding the tabs.
