These days I will purchase my first lcd monitor. Could you tell me what is the most important feature I should look (and what does it mean) for to not be disappointed later?

Shop around. Price should not be your top concern. Read online reviews of products you're looking at.

Definetly and HDTV is the way to go. We've got a 43" Sony downstairs and a 40" Samsung upstairs in our bedroom, both of them are hooked up to Bose Surround systems. Awesome!

In case of a computer monitor, i discourage from widescreen models if it is to be used for web browsing, general office work etc. A 4:3 monitor will work well together with all computers, while widescreen monitors might get problems together with some older graphics cards. This is particularly true when using graphic applications (CAD/CAM software, games etc) from before the widescreen era, particularly if they are to be run in DOS fullscreen mode.
