|
|
| I have a Sylvania 32" TV that took a lightning strike. It took out half of the low voltage power supply which I fixed and it will fire up without the degauss cable plugged in, but will pop the fuse when the degauss cable is plugged in. I don't have the schematic for the set. anyone have any ideas? |

First thing, are you sure of using the correct fuse?(sloblo vs normal?I seemed to remember being a problem on some sets?)
Otherwise, sounds like either a problem with thermistor &/or varistor used to control the coil. Do not have specific diagram but if you were able to tackle the power supply issue, should not be hard to pinpoint the cause of exceess current draw by the degauser.
Can you follow & draw the path thru the coil? It is mainly the AC applied to the coil & controlled by some sort of a thermistor or timed device to effectively reduce/disconnect full AC from the coil in an instant.
How about using a variac to bring it up slowly as you monitor the current draw? |

| vtech, thanks for your answer. I must have been having a senior moment as the problem was the fuse. A 4 amp slo-blo cured the problem. |
