I have a VSX-401 pioneer receiver and the left speaker cuts out. I have elimnated the speaker and have replaced the rear speaker terminals and balance control. I was going to replace the volume control, but thought I would get more info. before spending more money. |

You done the correct thing by trying a different speaker, the problem must then lie within the unit, it could well be a bad soldered joint or some component that requires replacement.
You could try tapping round the unit to see if the fault comes and goes, this would indicate a bad connection.
