TV has no sound

I have a Panasonic 20" inch tv for about 6 years but recently it isn't outputting any sound.

What could be the problem?

Since you don't mention HOW you have this set configured ... let alone the model or chassis numbers ... these things should get you started:

1) "Volume" control is all the way down;
2) "Speakers" are turned Off;
3) bad solder joints at "Line level audio outout (RCA)" jacks or external speaker jacks;
4) Defective speakers;
5) Defective component in audio or the power supplies to the audio circuit.
