Canon Digital ixus40

Hi,i have a the following problem with my Digital ixus40 . When i press the power button,it opens the lens as usual,but the LCD doesn`t start !!! Then i have to remove the battery to close the lens back. Some time it would start normally and then it works,till i shut it down ,and then same story ...... Please give me an idea of what might be the problem ,because i can`t use it. It use to be a great "point and shoot" camera !
