Applying pressure on center top front of the amplifier case allows dark display to properly illuminate. Otherwise amplifier & remote function perfectly.
Is there a common cause/repair for this display problem? Question

It appears you have a loose wire or solder connection. Putting pressure on one side of the case is causing the loose or cracked connection to remake. The only thing to do now is to use the process of elimination.
If you are good around electricity, you can remove the cover and carefully flex each wire, wire connection and board until you identify which area is at fault. Continue to narrow down your search until you find the part at fault and resolder. Since the unit must be plugged in and operating for this test, for safety reasons, use a non-conductive pushrod when probing inside the unit.

Removed 8 small screws to remove amplifier case cover.
Moving wires attached to the large circuit board just behind the digital display didn't help. But when pressing slightly on the board just below the top center, the display did light.
Am not sure if the board can be easily removed to see if the "open" circuit can be located.

I gently placed a trimmed popsical stick (thin wooden stick) between the back of the board (where I had previously applied light finger pressure) and the large heat sink edge opposite. The display has illuminated every day now for the last 10 days. Very Happy
