Just to close this out... I decided that the Law of Diminishing Return has taken precedence. It contradicts both my sense of order and my bulldog persistence to do so but the lack of a definate culprit/easy fix has closed this case. We are using my son's PS2 to play DVD's and life will go on. Thank's to everyone for their kind assistance. Great forum, here.

I hate combination units for this reason. Me myself, I like to play. But, $40 plus shipping, let us know what you decide to do. |

I have already pulled it out once and it is clean of contaminants. But, in the end, you may be right (external DVD). It goes against my tendency towards persistence. Grrrr. |

I've pulled quarters, pennies, and ham sandwiches out of sets. Not to mention barbie dolls and wax soldiers. The easiest thing to do here is buy an external DVD player. |

Have you ever had the mechanism go bad before with symptoms like the tray won't open (but will close) and distorted idle DVD screen, but the TV pic is fine? |

Hi Minnie, that part is for the mechanism, and it seems that does not include the PC board. The PC board on the DVD assy is 72783495.
Are you saying that you think that it is the mechanism and not the board? |
