The choice to repair or replace is totally up to you.
The market trend has been to the new flat screens and the price continues to drop on them, making them more affordable.
Since you don't seem intent on repairing it yourself, it almost makes more sense to take the money you would have spent on fixing this TV and put it towards a new flatscreen.
If you spent the money fixing this TV, you spent all this money and are still left with a 19 old TV.

I'm not sure what it's like in your area but around here, you can easily find CRT TV's for free on local community swap site, (kijiji or craigs list).

I'm no repair man, please tell me, is the TV worth saving or should I dump it?

Greetings, my 19 year old Sony KV-S3412 CRT television has been showing horizontal lines recently, it happened for a few weeks during the summer then went OK again but now the lines have returned.
The lines show up mostly on light backgrounds (please see photo).
At 19 years old the Sony has had a good innings, only breaking down once before during 2005 due to a 'dry joint'.
Is the TV beyond repair or is it a simple fault?
Any advise would be welcome. Thanks. Rolling Eyes
