you can do an install repair which will leave all your other data such as emails/settings etcin place and working see this site for some instructions take it slow and easy.

do you have any SCSI or Raid drives in the computer if so you will require the drivers to be installed during the early part.

if you have no SCSI or RAID it is quit easy really as long as you read the notes and take it slow and easy

you have lost some system files

if you have the cd then do a reinstall or a full format and reinstall

think you would be better getting a copy of xp home and installing that if its only for personal use

windows 2000 is rubbish in my opinion
