All caps (big and small) CAN be bad and yet exhibit no visual symptom of being bad. Or said another way, when you 'look' at your next cap, tell me what it says regarding its measured value &/or ESR.

Does your 'diminishing audio output' occur with Analog Inputs, Digital Inputs or both?
Does it affect the Front, Surround, Surround Back &/or Center outputs?

Does filament to display read normal? Some FLs dim/weaken over time (~11 years), after all, they are a vacuum tube.

I have a Sony DE697 Stereo Receiver that had a gradually diminishing audio output. I've checked the B+ and B- rails and find 33.5 and -43 V instead of the symmetrical 56V? Additionally I've got a dim display but the drive to the display looks ok. My first thought was the big electrolytics in the power supply but they look fine, no bulging tops. The bridge rectifier looks fine as well. I'd much appreciate any thoughts or ideas ! Thanks in advance
