you have probably managed to destroy the surround amplifier stage , check transistors q601 to q606, q651 to q656 and resistors in same area.

I have a STR-DE545 receiver. While hooking up the speaker wires with the receiver on (stupid move) I touched the + and - speaker wires together accidentally on the rear channel. The receiver shutoff and the display said PROTECT. Turned it off and then back on and it came back up. But now the rear surround speakers don't work. From what I've dug up so far it seems there might be a fuse or relay or something I might be able to fix myself?

Closest place to take it is an hour away and I'll be without good tv sound for 2+ weeks which I'd like to avoid.

I'm an engineer, not electrical, but am very "mechanically inclined". Electronics just are not my strong suit. If someone could just give me a little direction on what to look for / check I think I can fix this myself.

Thanks in advance for any help!
Craig
