Here's a problem complete with its solution.

Sony small tabletop 8" color set, KV8AD11, on the bench. Green light lit on the on/off button when depressed but otherwise set is DOA, no power up. Owner says worked fine the night before, next morning nothing...

No service data available, as usual.

This was another case of dried up electrolytics where the ESR meter paid for itself. There's a separate power switching / power supply board on the right side of the set, when viewed from the rear, with a cage around it. Noticed the board was somewhat heat-discolored. Found that the 100uf 16V electrolytic on that board was dried up and open circuit, and the 33uf 35V electrolytic on its way out at 10 Ohms ESR. These are identified as C609 and C603. Replaced both and normal operation restored.

Note that this small board slides up vertically for removal. It's suggested that only 105 degree C caps be used on this board as things run warm and are cramped.
