What did you have verify? Did a technician tell you that the power transformer was defective? Do you have a schematic for the equipment? Aside from checking fuses, verifying the integrity of your power cord there isn't much more that you can do without a schematic.
I have already repair this trouble. Check some relay or resistor
around the supply, You can check direcly the primary and secondary,
probably OK. IT is rarely a blowed transformator

Morning Gilloz,

Thanks for the time investment, much appreciated. I wont pay the astronomical cost as suggested by MFG distributor, probably would end up building one for me at that cost if I passed the order, or in all propability would just come back and state no stock. I know there are a few in my situation as other boards I found all say the same "good luck". I think I'll buy a lottery ticket, seems my chances are equal in both venues.

Will continue with a vengeance until I've exhausted all possibilities. Then I'm going to dismantle that pecker and use some chemical wizardry and remove all that silicone seal. Hopefully once I have access to the transformer per say I'll find a tecky who can either by-pass a possible temp fuse or fix it. Failing that it goes to the block on ebay for those who may need other parts.

Sure hope I don't end selling it on ebay.

Thanks plenty for the encouragement

Ron

Ronaldbarton: Wow! That is a big PA unit. I spent a few hours last night searching the Internet and saw what it was you are working with. It does sound like it is a heavy unit. Unfortunately I came up with a blank. I did find manuals, schematics and even people trying to sell theirs on E-Bay, but I had no luck with trying to locate a power transformer. Shouldn't be a surprise considering you have done the same thing. The only other thing you could try is to write the MFG directly and ask them if it's possible for you to procure this part. Would I pay $1800 for it? Probably not, if there are others on the market that will do the same job for less money. All a matter of choice, I guess. I am sorry I can not be of more help. Good luck in your search.

Gilloz,

Not sure I understood your question. But the unit I'm referring to is a Nakamichi PA-7 amplifier. Hopefully you're not referrring to serial number. This heavy sucker is in the double box,,,but if you think it's a necessity I'll get it.

One more thing. What is the brand and model number of the audio equipment in question? Yes, $1800 would discourage anyone.

Gillioz,

No typo error (eighteen hundred $us) just a polite way I believe in saying forget it.... You're right about the research part done quite a bit. I figured I had little to lose by attempting to develop a solution...I have none,,,yet. Appreciate your comments (lol). The part number is OB50049A (120/240v) or could get by with OB50046B (120v). keep me on your back burners. I still have faith and a pile of offers to sell for pieces (last resort).

Health and prosperity

Ok, good. Did you mean $18.00 as oppose to $1800? Something doesn't sound right here. You see, the Consumer Electronic industry no longer carry parts for equipment older than 7 years, the last time I checked. You'd be hard pressed to find specialized components for this equipment if it's older than 7 years. Since you have done extensive research on the matter, well, it seems you have answered or satisfied your own prognosis on this matter. Did get the part number off of the transformer and used that to locate the part? I have to assume that you have already tried the original manufacture of this audio equipment? Give me the part number and I'll see what I can do for you. Sorry I can't be of more help. Have a good day.
