if when you press a button on the remote the display on the unit says "remote 1" simultaneously press enter and 1 on the remote. if it says "remote 2" press enter and 2

i have a panosonic dvd/vhs player/recorder which i have retardedly gone through the setup menus and changed something to with the remote control frequency that the dvd player recieves. Now I cannot use it and the only buttons that will let you manipualte the on screen menus are on the remote. I have tried to locate the memory battery inside the player to no avail, if one even exists that is. Any help much appreicated.
