At the very least you'll have to replace the CMOS battery. You'll need the manual for this:

$10.79 and instant download.

Hello and thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me. I was given this laptop by my brother who purchased it on eBay last year. He never had it running, it came without a power cord. It seems to have several problems that I need help with! I got it running with a generic power adapter. BUT it's very picky, of course the battery will not charge, so I ordered a new one. (on the way) Everytime I boot the I have to update the system information, (dos?) and then when windows does load, it loses time and date. Is there an internal cmos battery to replace as well? It also seems to be very picky about how the plug is seated and refuses to reboot or startup on ac, I have to play with the start-up and suspend buttons to get it to boot. Maybe it does not like the generic power cord? I have already loaded a new OS (WINXP SP2) on a new hard drive. Also it often just shuts down for no reason at all, just as if I unplugged it. I was wondering if maybe a fan needs to be replaced. I do hear the fan at times and it does change speeds. I believe it will be a great machine once I get the "quirks" taken care of!

Thanks again!
