i would like to add at this stage resoldering of the memory chip on this module is very difficult even with expensive professional equipment ...

the memory chip tends to bow up slightly either end when heated during soldering process and therefore making it difficult to achive good contact that lasts ... although i have made succesful re-flow jobs of this using an Infra-Red SMD Soldring Station you also have to have the chip weighted at either end normaly to achieve a good long lasting result or otherwise it is possible that it will fail again a few months later .... so i would genrally recomend replacement with the new type module which so far has not suffered these issues .....

so take the teletext module out and run the set for week without it and if all is ok without in get a new one.....

the early teletext module's on the 42WH18B are very unreliable and go faulty for a passtime .... in fact out of the hundreds of sets i have looked at that it is fitted to this virtualy always the problem for many issues including stuck in standby as well as some other symptoms ...... the newer replacement teletext module is very reliable in fact out of hundreds of set that it's fitted to i have come across the new type has never gone wrong so far....

to proove it's the teletext module without having to buy a new one first, simply unplug it and take it out .... the set will run perfectly ok without the module in ... u'll just have no teletext on analog TV of course

If it is not solder joints (you have replaced them all?) check all of the capacitors. (especially the electrolytics)
