why 1/2 rated power? you tell her that the current remains the same automatically means half power.

Variac/powerstat/autotransformer etc.

Can I successfully use one rated at 220/240, to vary a 110/120 volt line?

(60HZ, single phase)

looking to lower 128 overvoltage to a more reasonable 120 or so.
