A simple Google search turns up a wealth of information.

Their are adaptors to convert serial to USB, but I have so many serial and USB cables around I can make one up to do the same thing if I can find the pin layouts.

As for the purpose of the cable, to connect a satellite receiver to the computer, none of my machines have serial any more.

I will order the adaptor tomorrow if no one knows the pin layout

What is the purpose for doing this? There may be a ready made cable already for this.
