This is definitely the painter chip on the small signal panel which is fitted vertically at the rear of the chassis. This is not a job for someone who has no experience of working with multi-pin smd components. The chip is about the size of a finger nail with 100pins. When replaced there is a download procedure to follow which must not be interupted or you will have to start all over again. This component is very expensive and you will have no guarantee that it will work when you have finished. My advice is just scrap it like thousands of others have done! Crying or Very sad

Some Philips sets have been plagued with such intermittent faults due to static discharges from insulated metal pieces near the CRT, that gets gradually charged to the EHT voltage until there is a flashover to ground.

Make sure that any metal loudspeaker grilles, the loudspeaker frames and other metal parts at the front are connected to chassis ground via resistors of some hundred kohms. Also, make sure that the ground connections to the CRT frame and the graphite (aquadag) coating of the CRT are in good order.

replace the painter ic7064 on the small signal pcb, 100 pin surface mount device, not the easiest item in the world to fit and definetly not one to attempt unless you have experience of smd components.

Hi There,

I have a Philips 32PW6515/05 which intermittently changes the channel to "Ext1"

My Dad's had a look as he thought it must of been some fault with the scart leads but it seems its not the case.......any ideas....

I'd appreciate any help you folks could give on this please.

Many thanks,
