| Hello, if you have a hard disk and firmware floppies, you are saved! All you have to do is format the hard disk under DOS, and transfer the system (I used DRDos v6, but it doesn't matter...). You must give the following label to your hard disk: LEC_HDD Create a working folder under the root of the disk: LS140_L1.DIR (corresponding to your version). Insert the firmware diskette and turn on the scope. That's all. Good luck with that. Michel. |

| I think your post may be dead and buried, but I just discovered it yesterday. I have the documentation and firmware disks. The scope hard disk was hs. I replaced it but I don't know what should be its content (DOS version, tree folders and files). A disk image would be welcome. If you are looking for the manual or the firmware file let me know. |

| Hi Michel. Sorry for a late reply. But I'd like to give you an update about on how I sorted out the issue with my LS140 - 2K. The -5V was not short circuit. If you measure with the multimeterin ohm, you read around 2 ohm, despite is a very low resistence, is not short circuit, meaning the -5V power supply that I fixed still have a problem. I have bought a brad new SMPS 5V 10A power supply and I've done a adaptation to fit this power supply inside the Oscilloscope. Bang! The machine is working again! And finally I have done the firmware installation. Everything is fine now and my vintage scope is back to life! Thank you so much for the support! I'll keep in touch!! Regards, Ed. |

| Hello Eduardo. First of all, I apologize for the delay in my response. I understand, since you are talking about the -5V power supply, that it is the motherboard of the scope and not that of the PC ! Mama mia ! I don't know anyone who has experienced such a mishap. The location of the component in short circuit may be difficult. The priority usually goes to electro-chemical or ancient tantalum capacitors which are the kings of the short circuit. I can unfortunately only remind you of some methods that can help you (and that you may already be practicing) ... Power the board with a 5V, limited-current power supply and try to locate a point where abnormal warm-up occurs. This will usually be where the component is shorted. Professionals use a thermal camera, this method is unstoppable but not everyone has one. If you don't have a thermal camera, you can freeze (frost) the card with a spray freezer. On power-up, an abnormally hot spot on the defective component will cause the frost to disappear very quickly. Personally I have already used this method successfully. I can only wish you good luck in your search for a breakdown. Cordially. Michel. |

| Hello Michel. Thank you so much for your support. But I need to tell you something. Do you know the -5V power supply? All of a sudden the power supply stopped to work with a fuse blown. I am electronic engineer and I have change the UC3842, Mos-Fet and some resistors and the power supply is back to work. But this power supply problem caused a short circuit in the main board because when I plug back the -5V connector, the power supply stops to work. Now I have no idea what is the problem. In the main board the -5V is shorten and I have tried to measure many components and I could not find yet what is causing the short circuit. Now I am crying.... Do you have an idea what is going on? | Hi buddy. I will try with a friend of mine. He got an old PC with Windows 95 and I will ask him to make this disk to me. You said is not needed a bootable disk? Just formated??? Wow! Hi Michel. I have the right firmware for the LS140 - 2K. But the problem, as I have stated on my previous post, I don't have resources to generate a MS-DOS floppy and fit the 2K firmware into it. | Hi Ed, if you have the right firmware it should be able to be copied without problems on a floppy formatted in 1.44 MB. Give me your email address and I will send you what I have. You will find in the package the firmware version that corresponds to your scope. Cordially.
