| No its the snow problem that you described. Anything I play on this thing produces slight snow. Seems to get worse at times. At first I thought it was a tracking issue but once I played the same non PAL tape on a different VCR it displayed fine. I just want to get it fixed so that it never does it again or at least hold off till I can convert all my videos. |

| Nah, I am in the south. What is exactly the problem? Are you seeing the "comet effect" superimposed on the video while playing tapes--while everything else is operating ok? |

| hmmm. the thing is I have old family tapes I need to convert to dvd thats why I bought this a few years back. I guess I will have to look for someone who can do it. |

| I used to work with them for a number of years but as you know vcr's are a thing of the past and seriously doubt if anyone in US would even be in business of fixing vcr's anymore? It was not difficult at all. Perhaps you may be able to get a handy person to tackle it? |

| vtech that was an amazing guide to fixing the device, however I have no experience with soldering and am too afraid of messing up the device since I paid so much for it. Do you know of any place where I can send this out and get it repaired? |

| SV5000W was one of the few units that automatically played different format tapes from overseas (PAL/SECAM etc) and converted them to NTSC. This is why you may still see them around. |
