Check out how the servo system is designed. If there is a tachometer generator either integrated in the motor or at the capstan shaft, then the speed will be way too high if the servo amplifier doesn't get any signal from the tach. Typically, DC servo motors for tape recorders should run at 2400 rpm at nominal tape speed.
Anyway, if there is a real fault in a circuit, then make sure that you find the basic fault and repair that instead of making temporary fixes and letting the original fault be. |

Have just acquired one of these after using them a lot in the past. However, the tape speed is way too high. I found a potentiometer on the circuit board that will slow it, but nowhere near enough. There appears to be a yellow wire going to the potentiometer - can I insert a resistor, and roughly what sort of value shoud I use.
If anyone can help, I'll gladly give more info and be more than grateful  |
