I have the same issue. The PR003 and PR004 components show continuity when using a DMM. They also are reading a small resistance across the leads. CD tray won't open or close. Laser head seems to be trying to find a track to play once hitting eject button once or twice but that's it. Everything else in the unit works just fine. Haven't tested out of a manually inserted CD would play if I hit play.

Any ideas?

The info in this thread about the blown PR003 and how to bypass it has saved my UD-M3 from the skip and for that I am very pleased! Very Happy

Longer story is that after neglecting this stereo for several years with it's dodgy volume control I decided to have a go at fixing it. The volume encoder was soon repaired by removing the grease from the internal encoder tracks and an initial test of the unit, inc. the CD, proved all was well. However, the following day it refused to play or eject. That brought me to this thread and I was able to confirm a high impedance across PR003 and a low impedance across PR004. I then soldered a 500mA 20mm fuse across the PR003 pins using insulated wires to position it to the side of the CD mechanism - I reasoned that if it blew straight away then there must be another fault, otherwise it should last for the longer term and making it externally accessible wasn't justified.

Many thanks to all of the previous posts over the last decade and a half!

Discovered this string while in the meantime inspecting for a fix for my Denon. Thought I'd give it a go despite having NO understanding of electrics or verifying. Picked to place an in-line merge holder thusly expected to change the gathering plate undercarriage irrelevantly to suit it.

Hi, My Denon UD-M3 is not able to play commercial music CDs. It skips, repeats a section continuously, freezes, etc. In desperation, I've tried a high-quality cleaner to no avail. Anyone with instructions/suggestions on how to replace/repair the CD drive? Any ideas? Thanks.

I thought my denon UD-M3 was ready for the bin (no cd eject problem), but I emailed some chap who sold one on ebay with this fault - he said it was a fuse somewhere too.

Took my unit apart, and I mean apart. All the boards out etc. The previous post regarding the PR003 is spot on. These are fusable links, they look like brown resistors with only a number. In this case 500 (ma).
Mine was open circuit as expected.

The location of PR003 is on the underside of the main board. As you dont have to remove the failed component - you can solder a new fuse on the topside.

CHECK YOURS IS OPEN CIRCUIT FIRST. I did this whilst the component was on board since it should be a short circuit.

Heres are piccys of my fuse in place. You can see the PR003 markings on the top side of the board.

I've used a fast blow 500 milli-amp fuse (40 pence each), and the unit is working fine now.

Obviously do all of this at your own risk!!

DENON UMD-30. A very clean and smooth sounding unit. The design is classic and display is adequately bright. If you're limited for space and budget, this is the ...

Hi found a post on the forum re cd tray failure - I have my daughters unit which has failed - I suspected the grandkids had stuffed something in and took cover off but nothing obvious - I am not very technically capable - would you be able to look at unit and see if it's repairable - will pay of course - I live in wokingham and daughter is in Epsom so we pass by Woking regularly - especially when the M3 is shut!! Hope you can help - cheers - Ian
