Some VW models have a preamplifier installed in the antenna base, and those units do often fail. Try connecting a temporary wire to the radio's antenna connector instead of the car's coaxial cable and see if you get better reception. If so, then the fault is not in the radio but in the preamplifier, in the antenna base or in the cabling in the car. Also, make sure that power supply and ground connections so the preamplifier are in good order.

Btw, does the radio work equally bad on both AM and FM, or is only one of the bands subject to the fault?

this is my first posting. My radio (VW beta z1z2.. blaupunkt?) cannot seem to locate the radio frequenies. The radio is not locked.
Previously there were prestored various channels but now the radio cannot seem to lock in. Only occasionally may signals be strong enough to lockin, but eventually the signals go out range and the signal is lost agian. This shows that the radio works.

Any idea what the trouble be de? Does anyone who have any troubleshooting tips?
