 Yes, it is perfectly safe to run an LCD monitor with all its panels removed. Just be sure not to touch the high voltage power supply!
There is nothing harmful (like microwave radiation or something) inside an LCD monitor. The LCD screen is lit by two to four (sometimes six) cold-cathode fluorescent tubes, no more "potent" than the fluorescent bulbs lighting your house. Beyond that, it's all "sane" electronics... simple transistors (the whole LCD panel is made of large transistors that switch and block light) and other low voltage electronics. Only the CCFL's run at >1,000 volts (I believe) and are well shielded. The only thing those shields are for is RF compliance. They shield the outside world from stray radio interference from the LCD monitor. Not a heck of a big deal but, well, don't tell the FCC. |

| There are two circuit boards inside and one has a metal cover screwed over it. Carefully covering five sides to completely envelope the board. I dont know what might be covering it on the LCD side. There are small holes in it, larger at the top, then at the bottom. What is this cover for and will it be safe for the environment (me) running this LCD without it? I have pictures.
