If the TV is newer and the remote is older, there is a good chance the remote is incompatible with the TV. Another consideration is that many TV's require a 4 digit code, and remotes come in 3 digit and 4 digit format.
As noted by lervinfix, check the manufacturer compatibility list for the remote.

If that TV has a built in VCR or DVD , try the codes for that brands players.
Many " combo units " don't use the tv code they use the player code. |

if you cant find same one..try a universal remote.. you can purchase that in any electronics store.. |
